Pretty Little Liars is a popular book series about a group of four girls who lose their best friend Allison. In the books, the girls receive text messages from a girl named "A." But just who is A?
Who is "A"? Is it Mona Vanderwaal?
In Pretty Little Liars, Mona is A in the beginning but is killed by falling off a cliff (when trying to push Spencer off) but in the end Ali becomes the real A. Ali never died and is actually a killer. Alison has a mentally ill twin named Courtney that none of her friends knew about. Courtney escaped from a mentally ill center, pretended to be Ali, and had her sister sent to the center saying Ali was Courtney. Courtney read Alison's diary containing all the girls secrets. When Alison escaped from the center, she sneaked into the barn and kidnapped her sister and buried her alive in revenge. Somehow Mona read the diary and was A. Also in the book, Hannah finds out Mona is A and Mona hits her in a truck causing Hannah to lose her memory for a short time. Spencer also finds out Mona was A and Mona brought Spencer to a cliff and tried to push her off luckily Spencer moved away but Mona fell off and died (after this Ali becomes the real A)
Yes she is A until she is killed in book four while she is trying to kill Spencer. She accidentally gets pushed off the side of the cliff in the struggle. She is not the second A though.
Mona is A for a period of time till she is killed by the real A who is actually Ally(the real one).
Yes Mona is the first A and how did Mona find out all of their secrets? well Maya took the boxes out of her room that was Allison's and Mona took Allison's old diary and she now knows all their secrets.
Yes. Mona is one of the As until she dies in book four. Alison than becomes the A. Alison had a twin sister Courtney, who was the one who died. They were identical twins. Courtney played Alison during the time that Spencer, Hanna, Emily, and Aria were friends with her.
I'm not familiar with the books, but I have read enough to understand what is going on. Okay, Alison has a twin sister named Courtney. They were completely identical. No one in Rosewood knew of Courtney because she was mentally ill. She would always claim she was Alison and wasn't. Their parents decided to send Courtney away since she was mentally ill, BUT whenever they sent her away, it wasn't Courtney that they sent away, it was Alison. They thought they sent Courtney, but since Courtney was always claiming she was Alison, they thought they were really sending Courtney. So, Courtney is now in Rosewood pretending to be Alison. And Alison is in a mental hospital with her parents thinking she's Courtney. Since Courtney was now trying to take over Alison's life in Rosewood, she 'dumped' Alison's old friends and befriended the four girls-Emily, Aria, Spencer, and Hanna- so that Alison's old friends wouldn't notice that it wasn't really her.
Whenever Courtney was pretending to be Ali, she wrote down all of the 4 girls secrets in a diary. Then, the night in the barn, Alison escaped from the mental hospital and kidnapped Courtney-whom the girls thought was Alison-from the barn and buried her alive in revenge from stealing her life. So technically, Alison isn't dead. Alison killed Courtney, but since Courtney was pretending to be Alison, the town of Rosewood thinks it is Alison that is dead because they didn't know of the twin sister or the change-up. Now, for 'A'. Whenever Mya moved in, there were still some of Alison's things in the house. So Mya brought the boxes out and set them on the sidewalk. The diary that Courtney had wrote all of the 4 girls secrets in was in one of the boxes. Without anyone noticing, Mona took the diary and then became 'A' because she knew all of the girls secrets. In the last episode of the first season, Hanna has figured out who 'A' is because she is spying on Mona's birthday in the woods since she was uninvited. Mona figures out that Hanna knows she is 'A' and hits her with the car, causing her to have short-term memory loss so she cannot tell the 4 girls about her discovery of 'A'. Apparently in the books, Mona dies whenever she is trying to push Spencer off of a cliff and Spencer moves, causing Mona to fall off the cliff. Therefor killing 'A'. The real Alison-(since she is alive and Courtney, who was pretending to be Alison, is really the one that is dead) takes over the role of 'A'. Hope that isn't too confusing! Haha.
Yes. Mona is one of the As. The other one is really Allison. Alison had a twin sister Courtney, who was the one who died. They were identical twins. Courtney played Alison during the time that Spencer, Hanna, Emily, and Aria were friends with her.
Mona turns out to be A in the fourth book Unbelievable. But the very last book A is revealed to be Allison. Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily discover the existence of Ali's institutionalized twin sister Courtney, who seeks to befriend them. She later reveals that she is actually Ali; she had gone up to her room after the fight with Spencer during their seventh grade sleepover, and Courtney had been killed in her place. After the Valentine's Day dance, Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily go with Ali to her house in the Poconos, where it is revealed that Courtney had switched places with Ali for all these years, and had befriended them as Ali. Ali had then escaped and killed Courtney for ruining her life. Now, a vengeful Ali locks the girls in a room and sets the house on fire, trying to kill them; they find a bound Melissa in the closet, with Ian's corpse. The girls escape, but Ali is trapped inside and dies.
There are TWO A's in Pretty Little Liars.
The first A is Mona V, who discovered all the secrets about the four girls when Mya moved into Ali's old house, and Ali's diary was with the things that Mya moved out of Alison's old room.
Mona takes this diary and gets her revenge from when the four girls were mean to her and called her a loser. Mona gets killed when she was trying to push Spencer off a cliff. Spencer moved away, and Mona fell down the cliff instead, therefore killing A number 1.
The second A is really Alison DiLaurentis-The Alison that the girls were friends with was really her identical twin sister, Courtney. Courtney was mentally ill, so they sent her to a mental institution. However, Courtney escaped from the mental institute and sent the real Ali in her place.
Courtney got rid of all of Alison's old friends so they would not figure out that she was not Ali, and got 4 new friends, Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily. The real Ali escaped from the mental institution and killed Courtney, then buried her in the backyard.
Of course, when they found Courtney's body, they thought it was Alison, because they are identical twins. Alison then became the second A because she found the diary that Courtney was keeping about the 4 girls and all of their secrets.
Yes she is the first -A and she wanted Spencer to join her.
Jenna Marshall
Jenna has hated Alison ever since the Halloween when Ali made a point to exclude her from the Little Liars’ clique. Jenna was the new girl in Rosewood, and when Ali told her not to wear a Lady Gaga costume (since that was Ali’s costume), Jenna showed up to Noel Kahn.Halloween party dressed as Gags anyway. Unfortunately for Jenna, she didn’t realize just how costly her decision would be.
Jenna has hated the rest of the Little Liars ever since Ali threw firecrackers at her when she was in her garage, blinding her. The Little Liars were there too, though Jenna wrongfully believes they were in on the cruelty.
Lucas Gottesman
Alison tormented Lucas for as long as he can remember. Just because he was bookish and a little shy, Ali decided to start a rumor that he had both “he” and “she” parts. In “The First Secret,” we saw just how belittling and awful Ali was when it came to battering the Rosewood High School nerds.
We also still have our suspicions that Lucas really was calling the Crisis Hotlineafter someone forced him to meet the Little Liars in the greenhouse. Jenna and Garrett’s heated, overheard discussion about bringing “a helper” into “it,” whatever it is, still points a finger towards Lucas being part of a group.
Jason DiLaurentis
Also a member of the N.A.T. club (along with the murdered Ian), Garrett has been romantically involved with Jenna for a while, dating back to before Alison’s murder. In solidarity with Jenna, Garrett may have hated Alison as well, and by extension, the Little Liars. We already know that Garrett and Jenna were directly involved with Alison’s murder, which is only one step away from being connected to all Alison-haters, and “A.”
Melissa Hastings
As Ian’s former fiancee, not to mention mother of his unborn child, Melissa is very closely connected to the N.A.T. club as well. Of course, Melissa’s hatred of Alison is well-founded, considering Alison was trying to steal Ian away from Melissa just before her death. It’s a long shot, but Melissa is now living in Philadelphia, just a few blocks away from the newsstand where “A” may have purchased those disposable cell phones.
Noel Kahn
There aren’t many obvious links between Noel and “A,” except for the kinds of friends he keeps. Going from onetime “A” suspect Mona to “A” suspect Jenna as love interests, not to mention getting rejected byAria (Lucy Hale), it seems like Noel has romantic inclinations to hate on the Little Liars. Noel was also at Ian’s frat house party in Season 1, Episode 18: “The Badass Seed,” when a drunk girl fell down the stairs (after maybe getting date-raped by Ian).

“CTRL:A”
Another Monday, and another episode Pretty Little Liars. This week A turns their sites away from the girls and focuses on Caleb (Tyler Blackburn). Meanwhile Spencer (Troian Bellisario) deals with family drama involving Jason Dilaurentis (Drew Van Acker), the girls uncover more information about Ali’s (Sasha Pieterse) alter ego Vivian Darkbloom, and Aria (Lucy Hale) learns Holden’s (Shane Coffey) secret. Here’s The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of “CTRL:A.”
The Good:
I love that Caleb gets such a big storyline. For as tech savvy as A is the girls are woefully inept – they’re basically Luddites and they need Caleb. One of my favorite parts of this arc is how realistic it seems. I love the continuity from last week with the school computers being hacked. I wonder if that means Mona (Janel Parish) really is involved? I like that Garrett (Yani Gellman) and Officer Wilden (Bryce Johnson) pretty much follow the rules with Caleb, complete with a warrant and no hacking into his computer (this time). And I love that after all of the girls worrying Caleb is exonerated, more or less. I do wonder if this means A will try extra hard to stop Caleb next time.
I hope this little hacking fiasco makes him a bit more cautious and that Caleb takes the threats from A a bit more seriously. That being said I wish the girls would give him a little bit more information about what’s really going on. At this point I feel like Caleb is in more danger because he doesn’t know the whole truth.
I really dig the Spencer and Jason storyline. It’s neat that they’re sort of working together to figure out the same mystery and connecting as siblings too. I hope Jason isn’t involved with A or Garrett and Jenna because I think he could be a great asset to the liars, and could end up having a great relationship with Spencer.
I feel badly for Emily (Shay Mitchell) because I’m starting to really like her character again, but I am really glad it looks like her relationship with Maya (Bianca Lawson) is over. I’m sure A realized Maya found another box that could implicate them, though so I wonder if she’s really gone or if Maya will be used as a pawn now.
The Bad:
OK, my jokes about Holden being a cage fighter for like the past three weeks were really just supposed to be jokes. I’m pretty disappointed that I predicted his storyline almost exactly. Okay so I said cage fighting and blood disease but he’s actually some crazy martial artist with an aortic aneurysm but that’s basically the same. I don’t like being clairvoyant when my ridiculous ramblings turn out to be true.
I hope my next ridiculous rambling doesn’t come to fruition as well. I think that Ezra (Ian Harding) will take the Hollis satellite program job and Aria will end up starting to date Holden for real; then Holden’s heart will give out and he’ll die and Aria will go running back Ezra. How’s that for ridiculous?
The Ugly:
This Jonah (Alex Weed) character Ali was involved with is creepy; but I think he holds the key to A. I just wish we knew why Ali was dressing up as Vivian Darkbloom. Did she think that she could trick A? And if she wasn’t blackmailing Mr. Hastings (Nolan North) who was all that money from and why did she need it?
I’m beginning to wonder how much Garrett and Jenna know about A. Could it be they are just murderers trying to cover their tracks and not crazy, stalkery, sociopaths? Garrett seems super surprised by the candy striper picture and that doesn’t seem like a detail A would let slip by.
Pretty Little Liars continues to up the ante every week and is definitely building momentum for an epic finale in a few weeks. I’m so glad that more questions are being answered and can’t wait for the new episode next week. What did you think?

Is Lucas really dead?
Lucas is Dirty
Emily's suicide hotline volunteering turned up a surprising lead in their pursuit of A. A call came in the night of their encounter from someone questioning their ability to go on in light of blowing their mission. Emily and Spencer are there the next time the person calls in and discover that it's Lucas. This instantly explains all of Lucas' strange behavior earlier in this episode, but instead of threatening harm to himself, he vows that he will hurt others. Judging by the fact that he knows all about that secluded party for Caleb, the setting for a showdown is all set.
Lucas Hits Rock Bottom
Lucas makes another call to his hotline buddy, who he may or may not know is Emily. He says that he's made his decision to possibly kill Hanna and maybe even Spencer. Emily worsens things by trying to talk him out of it and before we know it, Lucas is rowing Hanna out on...yup, you guessed it - a foggy lake. Hanna senses the danger and attacks Lucas while his back is turned, but the boat capsizes and forces Hanna to swim back to shore. Lucas is presumed dead.
The Aria and Ezra saga almost feels like it's pulled from another show. It disconnects Aria completely from the story of A and above all, it's a love affair where it would be hard to argue that they should actually be together. It seems to detract from the dominant focus of the show and becomes something I would like to fast forward. That's a testament to the strength of the mystery of A; the scene where Lucas walks in on Spencer was enthralling and was topped only by a shadowy A pulling Lucas' shoe out of the lake in the final scene. It's getting good.

Pretty Little Liars
The
series follows the lives of four teenage girls – Aria Montgomery, Emily
Fields, Hanna Marin, and Spencer Hastings – whose clique falls apart
after the disappearance of their leader, Alison DiLaurentis. One year
later, after the discovery of Ali's body, they begin receiving text
messages from an anonymous source , "A", who threatens to expose their
secrets – including long-hidden ones they thought only their close
friend Alison knew. As the shows continue they discover more secrets
that can harm not only them but the ones around them. They also discover
clues that may lead them to find out the identity of 'A' and Ali's
killer.
Emily
Emily Fields appears to have an ideal life. Her mom goes to great lengths to ensure that, at least.
But Emily fantasizes about getting out of Rosewood, even though she's a star swimmer and starts the show with popular boyfriend. Soon after we first meet Emily, she begins a friendship with a new girl in town, Maya.
Might it be more than a friendship, though?
Shay Mitchell stars as Emily Fields, an athletic girl who is struggling with her sexuality and the loss of her best friend.
Mitchell, born Shannon to a Filipino mother and Irish/Scottish father, is a native of Toronto, Canada. Even as a young child, she was interested in the performing arts, declaring to her parents that she would pursue such a career. Mitchell began dance lessons at the age of 5, and she and several of her classmates toured the city to compete with a variety of other dance schools.
At the age of 10, Mitchell's family moved west to Vancouver, British Columbia. Within a year of their arrival, an international modeling agency had an open casting call for teen and pre-teen girls who were vying for representation. Mitchell was one of the girls selected.
By her late teens, Mitchell had successfully modeled for a variety of companies in cities as varied as Bangkok, Hong Kong and Barcelona. Wanting to focus on her true passion, Mitchell returned to Toronto and began to study acting with great focus and determination. Her hard work paid off and, after signing with her first theatrical agency, she appeared in the hit series "DeGrassi: The Next Generation" and booked several national commercials. She also landed a recurring role in the Disney series "Aaron Stone," is featured in the music video for international recording artist Sean Paul's hit song "Hold My Hand" and will appear in the upcoming ABC series "Rookie Blue."
